Inductosense Announces the WAND Buried Pipe System (WAND-BPS) for Buried Pipe Internal Corrosion and Erosion Monitoring
Inductosense announce the upcoming launch of the WAND-BPS.
Inductosense is proud to announce the upcoming launch of the WAND-BPS, developed in response to customer feedback and growing demand.
WAND-BPS provides accurate and repeatable wall thickness monitoring of buried pipes. The system combines WAND TM Sensors (TMS), a newly developed 6-metre/20 feet ECHO (ECHO 600), protective coating, and an above-ground enclosure.
The data can be collected from the enclosure using either a WAND-HDC (handheld data collector) or with a WAND-RDC (remote data collector), giving operators the flexibility to manage buried pipe integrity without repeated excavation.

Key benefits from implementing WAND-BPS:
- Significant cost and time savings by deploying permanently installed WAND Sensor systems with one-time excavation
- Access to reliable and accurate thickness measurements from easily accessible locations
- Upgradable from manual to automatic data collection
- Enables maintenance planning based on actual corrosion rates
- Reduces the risk of Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) and protects the surrounding environment
Pre-production trials
Pipeline Operator, South China
A pipeline operator installed WAND TMS with ECHO extensions over a corrosion-prone section of a DN500 straight pipe buried 1.5 metres below ground. WAND-BPS allowed monthly monitoring of Top-of-Line (TOL) corrosion without further excavation. Over three years, the data confirmed stable wall thickness, allowing maintenance to be safely deferred.
Terminal Operator, East China
Previously reliant on manual UT inspections requiring repeated excavation, the terminal operator installed WAND-BPS on elbows and straight pipe, buried 1 metre below ground. The system provided accurate readings from surface enclosures and delivered significant cost savings, with the equivalent of four manual UT rounds covering the system cost.
These trials have demonstrated the need for and importance of WAND-BPS, delivering reliable, long-term monitoring for buried pipelines and reducing cost, improving safety, and enabling data-driven asset maintenance.
The Inductosense Product Launch Team is currently progressing with the final stage of trials. WAND-BPS will soon be available for customers looking to integrate the WAND Solution on their buried assets.
