Corrosion and erosion monitoring sensors
Applications

Embedded Monitoring: Easily installed underneath coatings and insulation, our corrosion and erosion monitoring sensors enable continuous, accurate wall thickness measurements without the need for removal or disruption of protective coatings.

Upgradable & Scalable: Designed for seamless integration with other WAND products, such as the WAND Remote Data Collector (RDC) and WAND Handheld Data Collector (HDC), allowing for scalable, networked monitoring across multiple assets or locations.

Remote Monitoring: Operators can wirelessly capture accurate, repeatable wall thickness data from fixed sensor locations, supporting continuous internal corrosion and erosion monitoring without the need for on-site inspections.

Hazardous Environments: Designed for reliability in challenging conditions such as risers, flare lines, or tank roofs, WAND TM Sensors offer a safe, non-intrusive solution for monitoring in areas with limited accessibility or increased risk.

FAQs

What are WAND TM Sensors?

WAND TM Sensors are thin, battery-free ultrasonic thickness sensors that are permanently installed on pipework and vessels. They provide accurate, repeatable wall thickness measurements from the same monitoring location, with RFID identification for automatic traceability and data management.

How do WAND TM Sensors measure wall thickness?

WAND TM Sensors are wirelessly activated by a WAND data collector, which collects an ultrasonic wall thickness measurement from the permanently installed sensor. Because measurements are taken from the same location each time, the data can be used to monitor internal corrosion and erosion over time.

Can WAND TM Sensors be used for corrosion monitoring under insulation?

Yes. WAND TM Sensors can be installed beneath insulation, coatings and composite repairs, allowing wall thickness to be monitored from a fixed location without repeatedly removing or disturbing the protective layer. For applications where the sensor collection point is difficult to access, the ECHO extension can relocate it to a more accessible position.

What wall thickness can WAND TM Sensors measure?

The measurement range depends on the sensor configuration and application. Standard WAND TM Sensor options can measure minimum wall thicknesses from 3.5 mm/0.14 in, with selected models measuring up to 150 mm/5.91 in. Inductosense recommends the appropriate sensor based on factors including wall thickness, temperature, pipe diameter and surface curvature.

Do WAND TM Sensors need batteries?

No. WAND TM Sensors are battery-free and are activated wirelessly when a measurement is required. This makes them well suited to long-term wall thickness monitoring at locations where regular maintenance or access can be difficult.

Can WAND TM Sensors be used in hazardous or high-temperature areas?

Yes. WAND TM Sensors are ATEX Zone 0 rated for hazardous environments, with different sensor configurations available for different operating conditions. Selected models can operate at temperatures up to 180°C/356°F.
