WAND Handheld Data Collector

Portable wall thickness data collection device

The WAND Handheld Data Collector (WAND-HDC) is an easy-to-use handheld tool that wirelessly activates and then collects a thickness reading from a WAND TM Sensor in less than a second.

Features & Benefits

Features

Fast Wireless Readings: Instantly collects wall thickness data from WAND TM Sensors in seconds.

Minimal Training Required: Displays thickness values, ultrasonic A-scan data, and RFID sensor information, with minimal training required.

RFID Traceability: Integrates with RFID-tagged sensors for automated data traceability and sensor identification.

Device Storage: Store up to 5000 readings and sensor locations on the WAND-HDC, enabling extended field work without needing to return to the office.

Seamless Data Management: Works with the iDART software for accurate wall thickness data management, review, and analysis.

Robust Design: Lightweight and built tough for regular use in industrial environments.

Applications

Manual Data Collection: Ideal for on-site collection of ultrasonic thickness data on piping, tanks, and vessels.

Safety in Industrial Environments: Enables safe corrosion and erosion monitoring across sectors such as oil & gas, chemicals, mining and nuclear.

Hard-to-Access Areas: Supports quick data retrieval from insulated or difficult-to-reach assets without removing coatings.

A worker in protective gear, including helmet and gloves, uses a WAND-HDC device to inspect pipes on an offshore platform, with the sea in the background.

FAQs

What is the WAND-HDC?

The WAND Handheld Data Collector (WAND-HDC) is a portable device used to collect ultrasonic wall thickness measurements from permanently installed WAND TM Sensors. It wirelessly activates the sensor and displays the thickness reading, ultrasonic A-scan and sensor identification information on the device.

How quickly does the WAND-HDC take a wall thickness reading?

A wall thickness measurement takes around one second to acquire, allowing operators to move quickly between installed WAND TM Sensor locations during inspections.

Do I need ultrasonic testing experience to use the WAND-HDC?

The WAND-HDC is designed to make ultrasonic thickness data collection simple and requires minimal training. Thickness values, A-scan data and RFID sensor information are displayed through the device interface, with measurements collected at the press of a button.

How many readings can the WAND-HDC store?

The WAND-HDC can store up to 5,000 wall thickness readings and sensor locations, supporting larger inspection campaigns without needing to transfer data after every measurement.

Can the WAND-HDC collect readings from sensors at height?

Yes. The WAND-HDC can be used with the REACH accessory to collect measurements from WAND TM Sensors installed at height or in other difficult-to-access locations. REACH extends up to 14.1 ft, helping reduce the need for ladders, scaffolding or rope access for routine monitoring.

How do I transfer WAND-HDC data to iDART?

The WAND-HDC connects to the desktop version of iDART via USB. Collected wall thickness data can then be managed, reviewed and analyzed alongside other WAND monitoring data.
